Our Very Merry Christmas!!

I hope this post finds you all well rested after your Christmas weekend. I am just now winding down from what was a very busy, crazy, fun, blessed, wonderful Christmas weekend. I am luckily off from work this whole week, so why has it taken me until Wed. to finally post. Well, as you know if you have a new baby you are in very high demand during this time and Lydia and I have been making our rounds with lunch dates this week and visiting family and friends still in town.

So instead of filling you in on every detail of the whole holiday I will just post some pictures. We are so blessed to have our family in town and spend time with all of them over Christmas Eve (my family) Christmas morning (my family came to us and brought yummy yummy breakfast) and Christmas day (Matt's family) day after Christmas (Matt's family). Whew it was a busy one and one that we will never forget. God has been so good and we are so thankful that we have our sweet Lydia here with us this year.

Mary Did You Know?

So Christmas is fast approaching and I have never been more excited then I am this year, to experience Christmas through the eyes of my daughter will change the way I look at Christmas forever. It has already changed me in so many other ways. I want less for myself and want more for her and I find myself wanting more for those who have less. I hope this is a permanent change that God has placed in my heart.

This morning I was driving into work and I was thinking about the song "Mary Did You Know?" And as a mother it truly moved me this year. Mary was such an amazing woman that God picked her to carry Jesus and raise him, raise our Savior, can you even imagine??? I can't imagine how that must have felt knowing that she was raising a son that would eventually die for all of our sins.

So on Christmas I will celebrate the birth of Jesus and I will also remember Mary who carried him and raised him here on Earth. What a privelage, a scary responsibility, sadness to know he would eventually die for us, but a joy all at the same time. What a feeling to have held our savior and to have looked into his eyes.

Has anyone else not even printed their Christmas Cards yet?!?! Ugggh I just had to change the Christmas Card we are using because I planned on picking them up from the store and I couldn't pick up the one I orignally had ready to order. That's what I get for slacking.

Although, no matter what card I pick it's going to be cute because this little girl is on it. Sorry for the bad quality it's from my phone but I had to share.

We could just put a bow on her head and leave her under the tree because she is the gift I am most thankful for this year!!!

7 months old

Lydia, Lydie Loo, Lydia Bug, Loo Loo, Boo Boo, Liddy,

Yes those are just a few of the nicknames you have accquired over your 7 months of life so far. I thought oh yay Lydia a name we can't really find a cheesy nickname for but oh wait.... we found some hahaha. You are just so darn cute and saying all of those in baby voices can usually get you to smile.

You are such a fun happy baby I can't even stand it sometimes, my heart just wants to burst out of my chest. You are growing and learning everyday and it is so fun to experience that first hand. You are pretty smart and that makes me so proud! You actually are developing up to an 8 month level, haha that is my proud mommy moment where I get to brag on my kid.

You love to talk in the mornings when your daddy and I are still semi-sleeping and you aren't really in a get me out of this crib now mood, you just like to talk to yourself and play with your hands. We call it story time.

You have 2 big teeth on the bottom now, they are pretty much all the way in and you look so cute when you smile or scream your happy scream and you can see them peak through.

You love to eat now, you are eating cut up bananas with mommy, you are absolutely obsessed with puffs, you like macaroni and cheese, and get cereal for lunch and a baby food for dinner.

You experienced your first Thanksgiving this past month and did an amazing job!

You want to be mobile so bad, you roll and scoot where you can and you get frusturated when you can't crawl to get something, so I'm pretty sure that's coming soon because you get a pretty determined look in your eye.

We took a few walks in the park with the dogs this past month and you loved being outside and laughing at the doggies tails as they walked in front of you.

You really love your bath time these days and splash splash splash all over the place.

You are starting to get a bit of an attitude if I take the remote away from you or we buckle you up in your car seat when you don't want to be.

You also got a new car seat which fits you a ton better because you are such a big girl!!

You have also started dancing and bopping up and down when music comes on, the waiters at the restaurants think you are the cutest thing when you are sitting in your highchair, put a big smile on your face and start bopping up and down. I LOVE IT!

I hope you continue to be healthy and grow strong, discover and learn everyday and continue to feel loved and safe. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I love you so much.

A Winter Wonderland Wedding Weekend

This weekend was definitely one of those weekends I will cherish and remember for the rest of my life.

My best friend and roommate from college got married up in South Bend this weekend. She has always talked of a winter wedding and the weather gave her exactly that. We had flurries the morning of her wedding day as we ate breakfast together talking about the excitement of the day to come. We watched the snow fall out the window of the room we got ready in and the flowers, reception site, and all of our colors really gave the feel of a winter wonderland.

I went up before Matt and Lydia, they came up Saturday for the wedding but didn't take anytime off work to get up there any sooner. So we had a slumber party all 4 of the 217 Harrison Apt. 2 girls. We drank champagne and laughed at the show bridal plasty. We talked about old times, painted our nails for the next day and just enjoyed each others company as we all live hectic lives that leave us minimal time together anymore.

Then at the wedding, not only was my whole family there including an adorable Lydia in a red dress to match my dress. But we had our whole Sexy Crew (my group of friends since Freshman year of college) together again, even Cody and Trista (and their baby who is in Trista's tummy) who live in Colorado, Rob who lives in Baltimore, Walsh who lives in Chicago, Billy who lives in Ohio, Ted who lives in Michigan and then all of us Indy people. It was so great to have everyone together again to share our friend marrying her best friend and love of her life. To see her so happy and fulfilled was worth the hangover and sleepiness I am feeling today.

Lydia's 1st Thanksgiving

I remember last year on Thanksgiving being so thankful for the healthy little baby growing inside of me and I couldn't wait until that first Holiday season with him or her (we didn't know yet what the baby was) and holy crap where did that year go?!?! We now have that healthy little baby here in our arms and she has brought us so much joy!

Our first Thanksgiving was our year to stay home so we had 2 Thanksgiving dinners to go to. We go to Matt's family at noon and eat meal #1 then we head over to my Grandma's for meal #2 around 4 or so. (yes i ate like a pig and the scale showed it this morning, yikes)

Although I was thankful for no long car rides and a new place for Lydia to get used to I did not take into consideration that she might not fall asleep and go down for a nap. Well she did go down for about 20 min and was up the rest of the time, she was a trooper. She sat at the table with us at my Grandma's and ate her babyfood and whatever else my dad happened to sneak to her to try.

It was so fun to watch our families love on her, not all of them to get to see her on a regular basis so for them to see her turning into the little girl with such a personality is really fun. They better watch out I have a feeling she will be crawling by Christmas and she will be coming after their presents!!

12 Days of Christmas Days 4-6 ... OOPS!

Ok, so it was a holiday weekend and the first holiday weekend with my Lydia bug which led me to soak up every second of my long weekend with her and decorate our house, snuggle by the fire, eat lots of yummy food and watch some football of course.

So here is what I missed:


Day 4: Tips/Tricks to a Budget Friendly holiday season

1. Set a price that you are willing to spend on each person you need to buy a gift for and STICK TO IT! We try and do this every year with no success but this year we HAVE to, no questions asked. So we have set a price for each gift and we are staying in that price range no matter what! So far the 2 gifts I have bought are def in that range, proud of myself!

2. Make arrangments with friends to just do a lunch or coffee to enjoy eachother throughout the holiday season instead of buying gifts, I used to buy gifts for roomies and some of my close friends but I won't be doing that this year. They understand with the baby. Also go home-made if you wish for coworkers etc. (Candy, cookies, etc. )

Day 5: Favorite Holiday Movie/TV Show Special

1. It's a Wonderful Life - We have an annual family viewing of this movie a week or so before Christmas, we make fun appetizer foods, pop popcorn in our uncles movie theatre popcorn maker.

2. The Grinch

3. Elf

4. Any cheesy ABC Family movie (can't help it, I'm a sucker)

Day 6: Gift ideas ... For ME!!

I remember the days of making out lists and going through catalogs to see all the newest and coolest gadgets for Christmas and giving that list to my mom. Well those days are gone, the days of lists of what I want has turned into lists of what to get my Lydia and that is completely ok with me. I cannot wait to see the joy on her face when she gets play with all the paper (because lets face it, she won't know what the gifts are) 


If I had to make a list for myself this is what would be on it. 

1. Vintage Pearl Necklace with Lydia's name on it. 

2. Movies :   Harry Potter 6 and Eclipse 



3. This yummy purse I found online @ Handbag Heaven.

My Black Friday

This is what my black Friday consists of. A cute fleece pj'd baby and her pup watching me decorate while Elf played on the tv in the background! So much better than fighting crowds, at least for me it is!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Lydia's first was busy but definitely a success, she only took a 20 min nap while at Matt's parents and then stayed up until we got home from my grandma's at 7, this girl is a trooper!! She also tried mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes the sweet potato casserole was her favorite.

Tonight we will hang out at home with a fire in the fireplace, the tree lit up, and a good Christmas movie with my hubby, baby girl and pups!!!

12 Days of Christmas: Day 3

Day 3 - Meaningful/Memorable Gift(s)

This one is also wayyyy easy for me!! For Christmas my Sophomore year of college I got the cutest, most lovable, wonderful gift in my pug puppy Ellie Mae!

I picked her out a couple weeks before Christmas and got to go pick her up on my way home from school for Christmas Break. She is still such a sweetie pie and I love her to pieces even when she's running around like a crazy pug and sheds alllll over my stuff.

 
This wasn't the year I got her, we didn't have facebook back then so therefore I don't have access to a picture at this time but this was when she was 2 I believe. Cutie Patootie Pug Face :)

12 Days of Christmas: Day 2

Day 2 - Black Friday/General Shopping Tips & Tricks

This is going to be a pretty easy one for me.

1. I don't go :)

I always avoid the stores on Black Friday because I turn into a stressed out grumpy gills. No joke not fun to be around me. So I stay in, play a little NSYNC Christmas and put all of my decorations up! Maybe pop in a Christmas movie and just enjoy the Christmas season officially beginning!!!

12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop Starts Today!

So I know I know I have been the ulitmate blog slacker as of late, with NO pictures and NO fun stories it's because I have been super busy with fun stuff that will hopefully make it to this blog with pictures in due time!

For now, I am going to participate the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop because I love Aly's blog and would love to take part in this!! I also HEART this Holiday so much and can't believe that Lydia's first Holiday season is upon us!!!

DAY 1 Christmas and Holiday Traditions

1. We always spend Christmas Eve with my family. We go to my grandma's where all of the cousins still sit around the living room watching our grandma open her gifts and those that are young enough to still get gifts from gma and their godparents open gifts. Then we EAT while listening to Christmas music and visiting with family that is rarely all in one location anymore!

2. My grandma made our stockings that we had as a kid, she made Matt one to match when we got married and she just finished Lydia's! Love this so much, they are so special.

3. Christmas morning = Jasper Sausage and mom's breakfast casserole and we usually still go to my parents Christmas morning but in order to start our own tradition of Lydia opening gifts at home on Christmas they will be coming over this Christmas morning (don't worry mom is still bringing her yummy bfast!)

4. The last few years we have started the tradition of attending the Christmas Tree lighting the night after Thanksgiving and then hitting up a local bar with friends to celebrate the start of the Holiday Season and most of our family is home, I can't wait to take Lydia to her first Christmas Tree Lighting!!

How I am called to help this Christmas

So, when I finally had my own little puppy that was all my own, not my family pet but my very own responsibility, I had this desire to save all the homeless pets. I started match making if you will rescue dogs with owners (friends and family of mine, looking for new pets) Then I adopted my very own when I moved into my own house, then we started fostering, then we finally added a 3rd and final through adoption again to our family. It's like I saw my little Ellie in ever single homeless dog and wanted to save them from a life of loneliness, hunger, cold, and abandonment.

I have to say the same thing has now happened since I have become a mother. I see my Lydia in every single orphan or child who is struggling, living without adequate nutrition, shelter, or love. I want to scoop them in my arms and love them. I want to tell them that God loves them that they are his children and he has not abandoned them. I want to feed them, cloth, them give them blankets and stuffed animals to snuggle with. I just want them to feel even an ounce of love that my Lydia feels every second of every day because she has a family.

I have come across a lot of adoption blogs of families going through a long, tedious, faith filled journey to bring home a child from another country whether it's China where the girls are abandoned on the side of the road or Ethiopia one of the poorest countries in the world. They are going through mountains of paperwork, medical exams, fingerprinting, home study appointments, court dates etc.... to give an orphan a home and make sure they don't live one day longer than necessary not feeling the love of their very own family.

Until the moment my husband and I can make a commitment on our own to bring a baby home, until we hear that calling from God and we have the financial resources to do so I am finding other ways that I can help the orphans and less fortunate children of this world and one way I am doing that this Christmas season is by taking part in Operation Christmas Child.

I am so excited because Lydia and I are going to go browse Target after work today and find toys, hygiene items, candy, and more to fill up a shoe box for a child this Christmas! We will write a letter and send a picture of where this gift came from and for many children this will be the very first gift they receive. I want Lydia to do this with me every year so we can take the time to not lose sight of the importance of all that we are blessed with and to give just a tiny portion of that to others is such a blessing! God has blessed us with the means and the resources to give to others, so that is what we are going to do. If I can bring a smile to the face of an orphan or child over seas this Christmas then it will be worth it!

SUCH A TROOPER!!

She got 3 shots yesterday and of course screamed bloody murder during them but once I picked her up she gave those nurses who just stuck the needles in her cute little thighs big fat Lydia baby smiles. OMG they melted and were so happy she had forgiven them for what they had done.

I love my little girl she is growing and learning everyday and I wish with all my might I could stay home with her but know that is not in the plans right now so I will just cherish the days that I do get to spend at home with her, even if she does spend most of it sleeping off her doctor visit.

6 Months: 1/2 a Year

Lydia Bug,

You are half a year old today.... let that sink in for mama for a second :::sucks up tears::: ok, holy moly girlfriend you are half way through your first year and it is hard to put into words the joy you have brought to my life.

Everyone says this and now I know they are speaking the truth, you just get more and more fun with each passing month (more and more challenging as well). You smile more and more, you are giggling and laughing like a happy girl.

You are a busy busy bee, you never just want to sit on my lap but you want to move and see what's going on, constantly turning and squirming.

You get frusturated when you can't get something because you want to crawl so bad but haven't quite figured it all out yet, you scoot yourself backwards and you sometimes are able to squirm and roll yourself to your desired toy/location but not quite as quickly as you'd like but I know once you start I am in BIG trouble so we will enjoy this less mobile time while it's still here.

You love the doggies and hug them every chance you get.

You are eating food now on a regular basis, your favorites are squash, bananas and sweet potatotes. You hate green beans and aren't too crazy about apples (you make a sour face)

You are definitely sitting up by yourself with no help from your mamma, we have a couple spills every now and then but that's ok it helps you learn I think, or so I tell myself when I feel bad that I let you fall over.

You love to throw your paci out of your crib now, that's fun at night when I haven't realized you've done it and can't find your paci, think I need to put a spare in there now.

You honey are the light of my life and so many others as well, you bring a smile to everyones face with those big cheeks and blue eyes, you can melt a big guy into a pile of baby mush and I love that!!

Keep growing and learning but not too fast because I like you in your pint sized state right now.

November = National Adoption Month

Hey everyone!! Happy 3rd of November and a HUGE Happy 1/2 year, BIG 6 Months to my baby girl Lydia :) Holy cow she has been here 1/2 a year already and I just love her so much (but that is for another post later on this evening)

I am posting right now because it was just now brought to my attention that it is National Adoption Month. I had never really given much thought about adoption until Lydia arrived and I was privelaged enough to hear Mary Beth Chapman speak on their adoption of 3 girls from China. I also read her book that detailed a little more about their adoption experience. I must say that the thought of these beautiful girls, someones Lydia Rose, being left in an orphanage somewhere, not loved by one single mommy of her own, breaks my heart.

But thanks to so many like the Chapmans and a new bloggy contact Emily @ the anderson crew, more and more children don't have to be orphaned because these amazing people are opening their homes. (who knows maybe it's in the Heinekamps future as well) Now adoption is not an easy journey (I have heard) it's not a cheap journey either. Emily is trying to bring home their little girl Elsa from Ethiopia, they are still working on getting the funds to do so but hope to bring her home in February. WOOOOO ELSA!!!

Baby's 1st Halloween

So we decided against spending money on a baby costume and just stuck with the cute little Halloween outfit. She didn't get to go out trick or treating but that's ok because she can't eat candy and her mom and dad don't need the candy either! So we settled for eating Bananas in our high chair while the trick or treaters came to the door. She also got some fun little Halloween gifts from Grandma and Aunt Sarah, my family just can't help themselves, they spoil her to pieces (but I love it!) She loved the gift bags and carried them with her, I didn't have my camera handy but it sure was cute!!

So loved and thankful for that!

Today I am thankful for the merciful God that we serve! He knows our innermost thoughts and now more than ever I find myself noticing him in the smallest things of my life. He is amazing enough that he knew I would need this message on this Monday morning. He straight emailed me this morning people!! I promise he had to have because this was just what I needed.

I was a little sad this morning, I had to leave my darling smiley pj'd baby girl at home to come into work, did I drive to work in my new mommy car? No because it's in the shop, did our Pumpkins we picked out together as a family make it to Halloween? No because little punk kids smashed them. I was just sad this morning and then I received this Women of Faith email with a message from Marilyn Meberg. God spoke to me this morning!!

I love my little Pumpkin!

We just went out last night and picked out our pumpkins (yes a little late I know) but we had fun walking around showing Lydia all the fall decorations and letting her check out the pumpkins. So fitting since I call her my little pumpkin head :)

What a Weekend!

This weekend was so much fun and full of old friends. I love it when old friends get together and you can finally catch up on life because lets face it, you mean to call all the time but never get around to it because well I'm a mom now and the minute Lydia is down and the house is semi straightened up I'm in a coma like state in my bed watching tv or falling fast asleep by 9 p.m.

So Friday night, my good friends from high school were in town (Britt lives in Lexington and Kristen lives in Kansas) so it was so fun for us all to get together again and go out for a fun night. It was great for Matt and I too as we dropped Lydia off with my mom and dad and she had a slumber party with them.

Saturday, Matt and I spent the majority of the day in the car dealership, yes like 5 hours spent at the car dealership but it was worth it because I was able to finally get out of my fun sporty convertible (not good for a baby) and into a mommy vehicle that can now comfortably fit baby Lydia without breaking my back and we can also put the furry members of our family in the back!! YAY :)

Sunday, we traveled up to the northern part of the state to South Bend for my college roomie's bridal shower. Lydia was a trooper! She is in that stranger anxiety stage where she gets scared at first of new places or people but then she warmed up and was a cute ball of fun. CONGRATS AMBER!! We have the bachelorette party next month and then the wedding on December 4th, can't wait for the big day!!



I won a starbucks gift card for traveling the farthest and Lydia thought it was a chew toy



So now I'm exhausted.... but have no time to be exhausted as I have a super busy event week again at work! No rest for this mamma, have a great Monday!!

What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This was the topic for the hour on KLove while I was driving to work after my Doctor's appointment. I really started thinking...What would I do if I just let God be the ruler of my life and the navigator of my everyday, instead of trying to live in my little comfortable bubble on my own terms.

So maybe think about that today as you go about your day... What would you do if you weren't afraid

Would you quit that job that leaves you feeling empty for one that is full of purpose?

Would you finish that paperwork to adopt a child?

Would you up your donations to your church or charity knowing that God will provide if you stretch yourself?

Would you ask that friend of yours that isn't a believer to go to church with you ?

Would you reconcile a lost friendship or relationship with a family member?

Would you go back to school?

Would you travel?

Would you pick up the phone and call someone?

WOW just think if we let God be the ruler of our lives and stop living on our own terms what he could do with us, how he could use us to make a positive impact in this world or to bring new joys and new memories into our life here on earth.

I love me some weekends

I absolutely heart weekends at this point in my life!! Ok, so I might have always liked weekends but lets be honest in college it's pretty much one big weekend interrupted by a few important tests, quizzes, projects etc. However, once you are in the working world you live for your weekends. Then when your husband works at a golf course and he's never around on the weekends you live to jam pack them so you don't miss him or get lonely or have to be a single mother so you bring in reinforcements. BUT at this point in my life, I have 2 straight days with my baby and my husband on weekends now. Hubby works at a bank = best hours ever and weekends and holidays :)

So now I love weekends and this weekend I started it out with the Lady Antebellum concert as I mentioned before. They did not disappoint, they were amazing and I love going to a concert where they sound even better than they do when you are jamming to them in your car and you can sing just as loud because everyone else is. I got to go to my happy place, my old campus (I absolutely love that place) I got to take the same walk I took thousands of times from Elliot Hall back to my apartment, oh the memories. Plus, I got to go to dinner with my brother and sister before the concert and I love them with all my heart, so I have to buy the poor college kids a meal and a beer as a pick me up, what else is a working sister good for.

Then we hung out with family celebrating a gazillion birthdays.... Shout out to, Robbie (miss you), my pug dog Ellie (she turned 6), Kylie, Amber, and Courtney!! We hit up a cross country meet, watched lots of football. GOOOOO Boilers and COLTS! Love when both my teams win. Ate lots of bad food, mexican, pizza, bw's all in one weekend :: waist line sighs out loud for me to hear::

Layed around in bed with hubby and baby girl, she loves to crawl (well attempt) all over us and slime us into big piles of baby slobber (daddy hates this) but I think it's hilarious and wear her drool with pride.

I love weekends and can't wait for the next!!!

A night spent with a few good friends

I am so excited because tonight, I get to spend the evening with these guys....

I have been waiting for them to headline a tour that comes my way, they came this summer with Tim McGraw but due to having a baby and a few complications that came my way I didn't make it and now they are coming to PURDUE!!

So my sister and I will spend a fun filled evening with Lady Antebellum and all their amazingness :) I will then feel what it is like to not be 21 or in college anymore and wake my butt up at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning and drag it to work... ahhhh but it will be worth it!

5 Months (it was really yesterday)

5 months... that is way to close to 6 months for my liking but I am not going to complain because you just seem to get more and more fun and more and more beautiful with every passing day.

You have had the opportunity to actually have both parents home a lot lately with daddy switching jobs and it has been so much fun to watch you turn into a little daddy's girl. (you still have eyes for your mama) but you give him the biggest smiles and you guys just make faces at each other all day.

You are such a funny little giggly girl now, yes you finally giggled and it was music to my ears! You weren't quite sure at first what this odd noise coming from you was but it is so darn cute, you usually do it most when I'm blowing raspberry's on your belly, eating your feet, or kissing your neck. You even did it last night in your bath when I was washing out that crazy neck roll you got going on.

You just moved into 6 to 9 month pj's because you are such a big girl you are too long for those little 3 to 6 month footie pj's but that's ok your cute 3 to 6 month outfits should still last us a few weeks. You actually get really really excited when I take you to your closet to pick out what you are going to wear. You truly are all girl when it comes to that!

You tried your first foods, sweet potatoes is what you got to try first and you looooved them. You loved them so much that you would put your hands in your mouth and chomp around like you were trying to eat them. Then you would try and take the spoon from me, we still had sweet potatoes up your nose a day after.

By this post next month I have a feeling you will be sitting up all by yourself! You are oh sooo close right now. I think you might also be working on a tooth as you drool like crazy, you've been waking up wining sometimes in the middle of the night, and everything goes to your mouth! So we will see what next month brings.

BUT for now I am enjoying every moment of this journey together. There is nothing I love more in this world then being your mommy.
