A tribute to my "Fur" babies: Part 1

So you might have noticed that I mention my dogs quite a bit throughout this blog. Well basically they are our children (up until Baby Girl gets here that is), then they will become well hopefully still our children, I'm sad to think I will neglect them but at least they have each other through the time of transition. Then I cannot wait to see how she interacts with them and I love to think about them playing in the back yard as she gets older and going on walks together, they will be her best friends!

So now for the first furry member of the Heinekamp family:

Meet Ellie Mae:

Ellie Mae is a spoiled rotten 5 and a half year old Pug. I got her for Christmas my sophomore year of college at Purdue. I had 2 roomates at the time but one was at her boyfriends most of the time and the other stayed home to work up until class started on Monday so I was home a lot by myself. I missed my dog at home like crazy and I knew I could take care of a dog no matter the situation plus the roomates had been talking about getting a puppy. (*insert background: I worked at a kennel from the time I was 14 until I had to get an internship between my Junior and Senior year of college, looooong time people!)

So, I decided upon a pug, they were small enough that I could tote her from school to home and she would be ok in an apartment. But they are pretty tough little dogs so I wasn't worried about breaking her or someone else if we had parties etc. She became the perfect little companion and college dog. This girl has had the life, lived in an apartment with 4 girls who loved on her, fed her table food (bad, bad, bad) she got to party with us and walk through campus with all the smells and people. In her 5 years she has lived in 2 apartments and 2 houses and been with me through graduating college, starting in the real world, getting engaged and married, buying a house and now having a baby.

Basically she rules the place, she sits on top of the couch watching over all that happens as people walk by, she watches the other two (you will meet them later) and acts as though she is oh so much better them, "who needs to slobber all over eachother to have a good time"? She is quite the princess and the one I worry about the most once the baby comes. She's been around babies I've babysat before and done fine because well they went home at the end of the day and she still got to snuggle in moms lap at night. It will be an adjustment but she doesn't have a mean bone in her body (except when it comes to dealing with Layla)

So here she is.... how can you resist that face??
