We decided we were going to start looking for the next big dog that needed us because we had been fostering rescues for ARPO for about a year or so and noticed Layla would be sad every time one of our fosters found a new home and left our home for their forever home. Plus, her only playmate is a 14 lb. pug and she can't really play as rough as she really wants to with her. So the search began. In my mind I wanted to find a dog that most people wouldn't believe would end up in a shelter (kind of my mission in life, to draw more attention to the doggies in shelters) and when I saw this beautiful Golden who was right in the age range we wanted (3-4 years old, no puppies for us thank you) I couldn't resist applying for him.
We went to meet him and boy was he BIG, hairy, and humped everything in site. He was CRAZY, he ran around the yard we took him in and he chased a tennis ball and jumped all over us and was so excited to be out of his cage. We then introduced him to our two doggies who he tried to sniff and hump for a good half hour but there was no fighting no signs of hatred. So we decided we would take him! Crazy right? Well first of all he wasn't neutered and second of all he had been locked in a cage for a few weeks and had been treated for whip worms so he was finally feeling himself and out of his cage we knew we could make it work when we brought him home.
When we brought him home, he was a completely different dog! He laid by our feet, he played but didn't hump a thing, he was still hairy and big and a little malnurished but man was he beautiful!! He's such a lover, he's the kind of dog that follows you from room to room or at least follows you to where he can always keep his eye on you, he lays by our bed at night and the minute you go to pet him he sits up all straight and proud like being your dog is the best reward in life. He is such a pleaser, I cannot wait to see how reacts to the baby I know he will not leave her side and he will become one of her very best friends!
HERE HE IS: Our big beautiful Golden Boy!!!
