Camping...A First

Matt and I are celebrating our 3 Year wedding anniversary tomorrow June 20th and we try to do something special to mark this beautiful occasion and even though our bank account is thin that didn't change the fact that we wanted to get away, spend a few moments of Matt and Allison time together. So... we went camping Friday night.

Matt took Friday off so we could get down earlier and get the campsite set up and hopefully hike around a bit before it got dark.(Ok, I also wanted to stop at the outlet mall on the way down for some new work clothes)

So we got down to Brown County relativity early  and we totally looked like newbies, the park ranger tried not to laugh at us as we said we had never been and had obviously no idea what we were doing or where we were going. No we don't need the electric hook up campsite because we didn't bring anything electric anyway, we are pumping up our air mattress with a bike pump silly camp ranger! :) JOKE ON US! we slept on a half blown up air mattress cursing the fact that we left the pump at home.

We got everything set up ended up being a perfect little campsite for the two of us, near some nice people who camp every weekend of the summer and warned of us rain on the way, far enough away from the all the campers and RV's but close enough to the bathrooms.
All smiles, Tent is up and ready to go!

We decided to get a hike in before it got dark so we went on a 3 mile rugged trail because it started at the back of our campground and was easy to get to. We were totally bored the first  half mile or so.. Rugged? Brown County this is what you call rugged?? Well little did we know that eventually we would get to a point where we went down hill (went to fast at the time so we weren't paying much attention, once again newbies people), we got to a beautiful creek and watched nature at it's finest nothing but trees, clear water, birds and eachother. THEN we started hiking again, up hill, "who's idea was this" I think I muttered as I had to stop  a couple times to suck air. We finally got to that boring stage I was talking about that lead us to the trail from the campground, I was so happy to be back on flat ground. It also gave me time to realize I could totally do it again and I was going to reward myself with hot dogs and smores without feeling guilty!

Still all smiles before we started walking back up hill towards the campground

So we got a fire going, sat the cooler in arms reach, hot dogs check, smores check, Pandora check, awesome husband of 3 years check.

The rain came so we got snug in the tent for the night and it never stopped ALL NIGHT long, thunder, lightning and rain so our plans for Saturday were rained out but we learned a lot and cannot wait to try camping again! We will be so much better at it next time!
